KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 – More than 60,000 MIC members and supporters will gather at Meru, Klang on Sunday, to pledge support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The ‘Program BN Pilihan Rakyat’ will be officiated by the prime minister at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Meru at 5.30pm.
Selangor MIC deputy chairman Datuk S. Gopalakrishnan said the programme, beginning 2pm, would be among a series of national gatherings nationwide, aimed at bolstering the party’s strength and support for the BN, ahead of the coming general election.
“The event will set the stage for a more cohesive and coordinated effort to unite the Malaysian Indian community,” he told a press conference at the MIC headquarters here today.
Also present were MIC secretary-general Datuk S. Murugesan and party treasurer Datuk Jaspal Singh. Gopalakrishnan said MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel was expected to use the gathering to urge the country’s 1.8 million Indians to continue supporting the ruling BN government.
