PUTRAJAYA, March 15- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today expressed disappointment over the insult a teacher in Kelantan had issued on a Facebook account against the security forces fighting Sulu terrorists in Sabah.
He said the teacher should appreciate the sacrifices of the national warriors.
“This (the defence of the nation) is not to be taken lightly. It is a serious matter that involves the question of sovereignty and security.
“Loyal Malaysians who love the country should appreciate the huge sacrifice of our security forces,” he told reporters after announcing Datuk Baharuddin Zainal, the renowned literary figure better known as Baha Zain, as the recipient of the 12th National Literary Award, here.
The statement of the teacher, which had been copied by several blogs, equates the policemen who were killed by the Sulu terrorists to dogs. Muhyiddin, who is also the education minister, said the teacher would be penalised by the ministry’s disciplinary board.
The Kelantan Education Department had also been instructed to investigate the teacher’s statement which said the policemen killed in the Sabah incident had died in vain. Director-General of Education Tan Sri Abd Ghafar Mahmud said the teacher’s statement had undermined the image and reputation of teachers.
