KUALA LUMPUR, March 19- The Bar Council of Malaysia will meet Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and the Sabah Law Association regarding cooperation in providing legal representation to all detainees under Ops Daulat, the ongoing security offensive to flush out Sulu terrorists who intruded into eastern Sabah.
Bar Council president Christopher Leong said today the council welcomed the Attorney-General’s invitation to the Malaysian Bar and the association in extending legal presentation to the detainees. On Friday, Abdul Gani said that the Bar Council and the Sabah Law Association would work together towards this end.
Leong said the move was in line with Malaysia’s obligations to observe the requirements its laws and international humanitarian law and human rights standards.
“Indeed, this reinforces our commitment to the rule of law in Malaysia,” he said in a statement. More than 100 people have detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 following terrorist attacks in Lahad Datu and Semporna recently.
