Berlin – The social media accounts of horror author Stephen King (pic) were silent on Sunday, after he announced he was “shutting down” after the US presidential election victory of Donald Trump.
King said he would no longer voice his opinion on Facebook and Twitter, where he was regularly active, after numerous posts calling for citizens to vote against Trump.
“No more book recommendations, politics, or amusing dog pictures for the immediate future. I’m shutting down,” the 69-year-old author wrote on election night, as Trump’s victory became clear.
His last message on Twitter reads “One more thing before I drift away for awhile: A common sign in antiques stores reading if you break it, you own it.”
King’s social media strike comes as Trump himself announced he would be “very restrained” in his use of Twitter after a campaign marked by his candid and often aggressive style of tweeting.
