KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 – The Registrar of Societies (ROS) was today urged to suspend the DAP as a political party pending the completion of the investigation on the irregularities alleged to have been commited at the party’s  Central Executive Committee (CEC) election on December 15.

The party’s former vice-chairman, Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim(Pic) said the matter  was of public interest.

2“The investigation into members’ complaints have been hampered by DAP’s secretary-general Lim Guan Eng who is not extending the necessary cooperation to the authorities (ROS).

“He is perceived as actively obstructing the course of justice, his cavalier approach to his duty and his ‘foot dragging’ cannot but give rise to imputations of motives that can affect negatively the standing and reputation such as it is of his party,” he told reporters at a press conference, here.

Abdul Aziz, who is also the former vice-president of Transparency International Malaysia, said Lim should by now come clean and admit his responsibility for the debacle which could have implications far beyond the party’s concerns.

“If he cannot take the heat, get out of the kitchen. There are fundamental issues involved, issues which has to do with our democratic practice, values and principles.

Abdul Aziz said during the party’s December election, there were supposed to be a total of 2,576 delegates to cast votes to elect the 20 members of the CEC, unfortunately 753 eligible delegates were not given the opportunity for it.

“Lim Guan Eng has placed a great emphasis on what he calls CAT principles – Competency, Accountability and Transparency, I think the members of the public had every right to expect Lim to live by his so called CAT principles,” he said.

The result of the CEC election was announced three days later. However, DAP later admitted that there were several errors in the vote counting during the election and had made a correction, which led to a several complaints.
