BORACAY, Philippines, March 25 – The Philippine government says security measures are in place to ensure the safety of tourists spending the Holy Week here, Xinhua news agency reported. The Department of Tourism said personnel from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard and Department of Transportation and Communication have been deployed in Boracay in anticipation of tourists who are expected to arrive in droves.
“The government is prepared to secure tourists who have started to arrive in Boracay in time for the long holiday,” said Boracay Tourism Department officer Tim Ticar.
Boracay’s beaches are favoured by local and foreign tourists particular during the Holy Week. The Tourism Department said hotels and resorts are fully booked and it has offered homestay as an alternative accommodation to tourists.
