JOHOR BAHARU, March 26 – Johor Baharu Umno Youth division has pledged to defend Johor Baharu parliamentary seat from falling to the opposition in the general election. Its chief, Khalid Mohamad said the election machinery sprang into action in the middle of last year by tackling target groups, especially youths by distributing leaflets to explain current issues.
“We made almost weekly visits to places of public interest such as wet markets, flea markets and farmers markets to distribute leaflets.
“Activities for youths such as futsal competition, blood donation andmeetings were held to get feedback from them,” he told Bernama here today.
Following the meetings, Johor Baharu Umno Youth managed to understand problems faced by youths and tried to resolve them. Khalid said it had resolved almost all the problems, including lack of sports facilities for youths and lack of employment opportunities in Iskandar Malaysia.
“The sports facilities problem was solved by getting aid from the Youth and Sports Ministry while the opening of Legoland theme park had created more jobs for youths.”
The Election Commission (EC) electoral roll gazetted on February 22 states that Johor Baharu parliamentary constituency has 96,515 registered voters with youths comprising over 40 percent.
