REMBAU, March 28 – The people of Negeri Sembilan today woke up to a caretaker state government in power, and life and business go on as usual.
“There’s no problem. The only difference is that as a caretaker government we cannot make decisions on policy which can have implications on the people and the next government,” Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan(pic) said here. The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly dissolved automatically at midnight last night, marking a historic first for the state and probably for the country. The automatic dissolution was in accordance with the state constitution.
The 36-member assembly, which was sworn in on March 27, 2008 and had its first sitting on April 25, 2008, had served the full five-year term, making it the first state legislative assembly in the country to automatically dissolve. The menteri besar and the state executive councillors would see to the day-to-day running of the government.
Mohamad said: “We are still a government which takes care of the welfare of the people. Without a government, there will be anarchy,” he told reporters after handing over land titles to 55 people of Kampung Pasir Siliau and Kampung Pasir Tengah, Rantau, here.
