GEORGE TOWN — Penang Deputy Chief Minister  II Prof P. Ramasamy reiterated that he is a peacemaker and not a terrorist. Ramasamy said accusations that he was member of a terrorist group because of his involvement in the peace process between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lankan government were false.

“I wish to stress that these false accusations are being purposely made to stir up emotions because of my statements on  Zakir Naik (a free lance Islamic preacher),” he said in a statement.

Ramasamy  had asked for Zakir, who has permanent resident status in Malaysia, to be sent back to India because he is wanted by that country.

Following that, more than 50 police reports were lodged against him, accusing him of supporting the LTTE.

Meanwhile, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that despite Ramasamy explaining himself a number of times, there were still many who were not satisfied with his explanation.

“I have been told that (Datuk Dr) Mujahid (Yusof Rawa) has contacted Ramasamy to arrange a meeting to discuss such matters and it is better for you to reach them for further details,” he said.
