KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today gave a statement in the Dewan Rakyat on the recent riots in the vicinity of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, near here.
He gave the statement under Standing Orders 14(i) – Statement by Ministers.
On Tuesday, MPs from both sides tabled an emergency motion to Speaker Datuk Mohd Ariff Md Yusof to discuss the matter in the House.
The issue of the relocation of the temple triggered riots early Monday and Tuesday near the temple, resulting in a firefighter being seriously injured, several other people also hurt, 23 cars torched and a section of the One City Mall damaged.
The firefighter, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, 24, is stable but still in a critical condition at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
The police have arrested 30 people so far to assist in the investigation into the riots.
