MELBOURNE, April 3 – Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard will personally raise the issue of North Korea’s latest threats in discussions with China’s leaders. Gillard heads off to China later this week for a six-day visit to discuss investment, trade and security matters.

Concerns over North Korea, which has issued a series of increasingly bellicose threats against South Korea and the United States in recent days, will also be discussed, the Australian Associated Press reports Gillard welcomed the fact that China was enforcing UN sanctions against North Korea.

The prime minister said she was taking the “most high-powered delegation” to China that Australia had ever sent. Foreign Minister Bob Carr and Trade Minister Craig Emerson are among those in the delegation.
