Isa Abdul SamadKUALA LUMPUR, April 4 – Felda Group chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad(pic) is confident that the 450,000-odd voters who are Felda scheme settlers will fully back the current government in the upcoming general election. He said they supported the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as it had provided a lot of facilities and implemented programmes for the more than 100,000 Felda settlers throughout the country in order to improve their lot.

Najib was sensitive to the problems of the second generation of Felda settlers who wished to own a house, he added after handing over the Ops Daulat Donation Fund for members of the Royal Malaysian Police and Malaysian Armed Forces, here, today.

“We’ve been asked to implement many housing projects and he (Najib) wants 4,000 units to be built each year over a five-year period as plannd under the Budget.”

For this year, he said, Felda would build over 4,000 houses. Mohd Isa said the agency would also be implementing the Sentuhan Kasih Felda (Felda Touch of Love) transformation programme involving its new generation by providing housing and agriculture projects for them to generate additional income.

On developments in Felda Sahabat in Lahad Datu, Sabah, which was affected by the intrusion by militants from southern Philippines last month, he said the affected areas comprised 6,000 hectares of the scheme’s 100,000 hectares. However, he said, the amount of losses could not be fully ascertained yet as the settlers were still waiting for the green light from the security forces to return to their settlements.

At the event, Mohd Isa handed over a cheque for RM125,000, contributed by Felda staff and settlers from 317 land schemes to federal police Narcotics CID director, Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim, and Assistant Chief of Staff of the Royal
Malaysian Air Force, Brig Gen Datuk Ibrahim Hashim. Felda also contributed food and beverage products worth RM30,000 from Sawari Felda and Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd, two companies under Felda Global Venture

Holdings Bhd, to members of the securiy forces still involved in Ops Daulat. Mohd Isa, an Umno veteran, also expressed confidence that Barisan Nasional would be able to win two-thirds majority in the coming general election. He said this was based on Najib’s leadership which was more focused and had clear direction in developing the country in the four years since he became prime minister.
