JOHOR BAHARU, April 4 – The Johor state legislative assembly was dissolved effective yesterday to pave the way for elections, according to a statement today from the Office of the Menteri Besar. The statement said Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar(pic) gave the consent for the dissolution of the assembly effective yesterday.
The Johor state election can now be held simultaneously with the 13th federal polls. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had dissolved the Dewan Rakyat yesterday. At the time of dissolution, the Barisan Nasional (BN) had 50 seats in the Johor assembly while the DAP had four and PAS, two. Johor has 26 parliamentary seats, 25 of which were held by the BN prior to the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat. The DAP held one.
