PETALING JAYA, April 4 – Only non-smokers will be selected as the PAS candidates for parliamentary and state seats in Kelantan in the 13th general election, PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat(pic) said today.
“A smoker cannot be a candidate,” he told Bernama when approached after a meeting of Pakatan opposition pact leaders at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) headquarters, here.
Nik Abdul Aziz had reportedly reprimanded some PAS leaders and supporters in Kelantan who smoked in public and advised them to give up the habit.
The meeting of the opposition pact leaders comes a day after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat for the 13th general election. DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng gave the assurance that the party would not cause any disorder during the general election.
“On behalf of the DAP and our colleagues, we give the assurance that our members and supporters will campaign peacefully and in a disciplined manner in accordance with the law and not cause any disorder,” he told a news conference. Besides Nik Abdul Aziz, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and other DAP, PAS and PKR leaders were also present.
Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, meanwhile, had an audience with the Sultan of Selangor at the Istana Alam Shah in Klang to seek the dissolution of the state legislative assembly for elections.
