KUCHING, April 4 – Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chief, Datuk Fadillah Yusof (pic)has advised party members not chosen as candidates for the 13th general election (13GE) to continue to struggle for the party. He said politicians should be prepared for any decision coming from their top party leadership, and he also reminded that not being selected to contest was also a sacrifice for the party.
“I believe we were taught to have good values and to uphold the principle of being united under BN. Hence, when the party leadership has chosen the candidates, we must continue to struggle for the party and ensure that BN wins by supporting these candidates.
“This spirit should filter from the state level down to the divisions and branches,” he said after handing over a contribution of RM70,100 to a Kuching Media Prima representative for the Lahad Datu Warriors Fund at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters in Jalan Bako, here, today.
Asked on his chances of retaining the Petra Jaya parliamentary seat with a big majority, Fadillah said he himself did not know whether he would be re-nominated to contest, but based on the results of the (2011) state election, BN should have no problems winning.
“I have to wait for the announcement as I am not sure I am a candidate for the upcoming elections. But whoever is nominated, Petra Jaya will remain a BN stronghold, based on the evidence of the previous state election,” he said. Fadillah won with a big majority of 14,397 votes in the 2008 general election, the biggest by a BN candidate in Sarawak. He garnered 19,515 votes compared to 5,118 received by Mohamad Jolhi from PKR. Many believe that Fadillah, who is also PBB Youth chief, will be selected again to defend the Petra Jaya seat.
