Datuk Fadillah YusofKUCHING, April 1 – The tussle between Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and PAS in contesting in the Petra Jaya Parliamentary constituency shows there is no consensus in the opposition camp, said incumbent Petra Jaya Member of Parliament Datuk Fadillah Yusof(Pic), here today.

He said to date, the opposition parties had yet to identify their candidates in the Bumiputra majority area, here and in Santubong, which was contested by a PKR candidate.

“It was expected that the opposition could still not come to a concrete agreement on the candidate as they could not unite among themselves,” he told reporters after chairing the main committee of 1Malaysia Astro Youth Fiesta for Petra Jaya here.

According to him, what was happening in the opposition party was not so important compared to the focus on ensuring the people in Petra Jaya received the best service.

“I was chosen by voters in Petra Jaya to be their representative and it is my main responsibility to give the best to them,” he said.

Fadillah, who is the Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) Youth chief, said the success of Barisan Nasional in bringing development to the Petra Jaya Parliamentary constituency had left no issue for the opposition to exploit in the area.  According to him, the federal government recently agreed with the proposal of the state government to build another bridge across Sungai Sarawak to Petra Jaya from the southern part of Kuching city costing RM140 million to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

Apart from that, other major plans approved included the construction of a new hospital and a new district police station for Petra Jaya.  Touching on the 1Malaysia Petra Jaya Astro Youth Fiesta, Fadillah said about 15,000 people were expected to attend the event over three days from April 12.
