KOTA BAHARU, April 5 – Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat(Pic) on Thursday announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly effective immediately. He made the announcement at 11.55pm at the official residence of the Menteri Besar here after obtaining the consent of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V at the Istana Negeri in Kubang Kerian.
The dissolution of the state legislative assembly was made under Clause 2 Article 46 of the State Constitution and the document of the dissolution will be handed over to the Election Commission soon for further action. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday announced the dissolution of the 12th Dewan Rakyat to pave way for the 13th general election.
PAS has ruled Kelantan since 1990 and in the 2008 general election, won 38 state seats, while Barisan Nasional (BN) won six and PKR, one. However, in the Galas by-election on Nov 4, BN managed to steal the seat from PAS. For parliamentary seats in Kelantan, PAS has eight, BN (2), PKR (3) and Independent (1).
