5 April 2013-Much-awaited film Settai is all set to hit the screens tomorrow (April 5). It is a remake of superhit Hindi film Delhi Belly. The Bollywood version was an adult comedy where there were lots of cuss words in the film. But the Tamil version is targeted towards family audience.
Director Kannan has omitted vulgar dialogues and changed the script to suit the local audience yet retaining the core plot. The title of the film was chosen after asking netizens to suggest a name. The contest created by the film team got good response on Twitter and based on people’s verdict, the film was named Settai. Varuthapadaatha Vaalibar Sangam and Vai Raja Vai were also considered.
Arya, Santhanam, Premji Amaren will be reprising the roles played by Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapoor in the original. Hansika Motwani and Anjali were roped in to play the female leads, which were played by Poorna Jagannathan and Shenaz Treasurywala in the Hindi version. Nassar, Ali, Subbu Panchu, Suja Varunee and others were signed for the supporting cast.
Neetu Chandra has done a special number in the film. Explaining about the cast and convicing actors to star in the film, Kannan claimed, “Casting for Settai was most challenging because initially all the actors were sceptical how would I remake the film for Tamil audience.
When I met Arya to discuss the idea of the film, he was taken aback that how am I even going to remake the original without using any cuss word. And so did the female actors. But I sat down with them and explained how family-friendly this film would be,” he added.
The first promotional video was attached with Mugamoodi in cinemas and simultaneously released on YouTube. The teaser was overwhelmingly received by audience, as it fetched 2.8 lakh hits, which was one of the highest at that time, in three days.
