KUALA LUMPUR, April 5- Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim(Pic) wants Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) to produce more programmes aimed at strengthening the thinking of the Malays and Muslims so that they can continue to progress and compete with the other communities.
He said that as the nation’s official broadcaster, RTM should play its role to improve the country’s image besides inculcating a sense of togetherness among the plural society. In his short speech at the ‘yasin’ recital and tahlil in conjunction with RTM’s 67th anniversary at Angkasapuri, here today, the minister said RTM should continue to be the conduit in channelling information, educatonal material and entertainment as the agency moved towards becoming a broadcasting corporation.
As RTM touched the age of 67, Rais said it was appropriate that the organisation forged close cooperation with the private television stations and pay TV in the country. He said this would not only strengthen RTM but could also realise the objective of continuing to become the best source of news, education and entertainment.
Rais said RTM’s credibility as the provider of news and information had been proven through the coverage of the armed intrusion by terrorists in Sabah’s east coast recently.
