Based on the fourth quarter of the electoral roll, which was gazetted on February 22, this year, the urban parliamentary seats of Stampin has the highest number of registered voters at 84,820, followed by Miri (71,287) and Sibu (64,732).
The rural coastal parliamentary constituency of Igan has the lowest number of registered voters at 17,815 while nationwide, the EC has registered a total of 13.34 million voters. EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof had said the commission would spend an estimated RM78 million, including allocation for logistics, to conduct the polls in Sarawak, the highest budget among the various states, in view of its geographical vastness and rugged terrain.
Following the dissolution of Parliament on Wednesday, the EC will meet next Wednesday to decide the dates for the nomination of candidates and polling day for the general election. However, the term of the 71-member Sarawak State Assembly only expires in May 2016.
