KUCHING, April 6 – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is expected to retain all members of parliament (MP), except one, to contest in the 13th General Election (PRU-13). Twenty-nine of 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak are controlled by Barisan Nasional (BN), PBB (14), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (six), Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) (five) and Parti Progresif Demokratik Sarawak (SPDP) (four) while the rest are under the opposition DAP.
In the general election in 2008, Sarawak BN won 30 of the 31 seats and lost one seat to DAP in the Sibu by-election in 2010. PBB president Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud(pic) said the new candidate would be a woman.
“Everything is completed…no problem except to wait for the prime minister to declare (the final list)…there is only one new face, a woman. We often change, all the time,” the Sarawak BN chairman told reporters after opening a function here today.
Prior to this, a woman has often been mentioned as contesting the Kota Samarahan Parliamentary seat, one of the 14 seats which would be defended by PBB at PRU-13. The PBB has three women MPs. They are state domestic trade, cooperative and
consumerism minister Datuk Rohani Karim, who is also Batang Lupar MP, Nancy Shukri (Batang Sadong) and Norah Abdul Rahman (Tanjong Manis).
