MELAKA, April 9 – Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has announced State Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin(pic) as its candidate for the Bukit Katil parliamentary seat in the 13th general election. PKR Tangga Batu division chief Rahim Ali has been chosen to contest the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat.
Their names were announced by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a ceramah in Taman Bahagia, Bukit Baru here, last night. Rahim, who was a former teacher and Sabah Headmasters Council chairman, stood on the Semangat 46 ticket for the Batu Berendam parliamentary seat but lost to Mohd Tamrin Abdul Ghafar (Barisan Nasional – BN) in the 1990 general election.
In the 2008 general election, the PKR fielded Khalid Jaafar in Bukit Katil but lost to BN’s Datuk Mat Sirat Abu by a 1,758-vote majority while PKR’s Zainon Jaafar lost to BN’s Datuk Idris Haron in Tangga Batu by a 14,500-vote majority.
