New Delhi, April 10, 2013 -Upset over Tuesday’s attack on her delegation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said “Delhi is not safe” as she beat a hasty retreat, leaving the five-day tour of national capital midway.

“I have got great support from you all (media)… But I want to say that Delhi is not safe. I am sorry,” Banerjee said minutes before leaving for Kolkata as she cancelled her scheduled meeting with Finance Minister P. Chidambaram.

The Trainamool Congress chief’s statement came a day after she was gheraoed and her Finance Minister Amit Mitra was manhandled by alleged SFI protesters outside the Yojana Bhavan.

Banerjee accused the CPI-M of “bloodbath” in Bengal for over three decades as she rebutted her party workers’ involvement in incidents of violence in the state. She said the Left leaders would often use Trinamool flags to malign the party’s image.
