KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 – Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to announce its candidates for the 13th general election by next Tuesday at the latest. The announcement is expected to be made by state BN liaison chairmen after BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak handed over the final list of candidates to them by Monday at the latest, according to a party source.
Prior to this, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that the BN’s list of election candidates might be announced within seven to 10 days before the nomination. The Election Commission today announced that the nomination day for the 13th general election was set on April 20, while the polling day on May 5.
A total of 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats will be contested in the general election. At the time of dissolution, the BN had 137 seats in the Dewan Rakyat with the rest held by the DAP (29), PKR (23), PAS (23) Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanahair (one) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (one). Eight other seats were held by independent members of Parliament.
