JEMPOL, April 13 – The recent opinion and statement made by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat should not be taken seriously as it raised skepticism and confusion among Muslims, said Negeri Sembilan Umno Liaison chief Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad. He said Nik Aziz’s statement was more politically inclined than religious.
“It’s embarassing for us, as well as PAS members, to read because a personality who claims to be a religious personality is speaking nonsense.
“When he makes such statements and it’s published in the newspaper, non-Muslims also read the statement and it’s not only funny but also embarassing to Muslims,” he told reporters after officiating power supply for the national grid at the Serting Hilir Biogas Power Plant, near here.
Nik Aziz recently issued a controversial statement that Umno members and supporters will not earn divine merits for performing daily prayers and that Barisan Nasional (BN) constructed mosques only to serve contractors. Mohd Isa, who is also Felda chairman, said he believes the current situation disappointed PAS members because several PAS struggles were forgotten as its leaders were dictated by DAP in the opposition coalition.
Mohd Isa also reminded Umno members not selected as candidates not to take heart and to continue working hard to ensure the victory of Barisan Nasional on May 5. At the event, Mohd Isa received a cheque worth RM14,000 for the Lahad Datu Heroes Fund. The contribution was from FJB Wilayah Serting, Pasoh Joint Consensus Committee, Serting Joint Consensus Committee and the Serting Hilir Joint Consensus Committee.
