PETALING JAYA: Businesswoman Ummi Hafilda wants to take her bitter fight with brother Azmin Ali into his political turf by offering herself as a candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in GE13.
“If I am given an option by the Barisan Nasional leadership, I prefer to contest against Azmin as no one knows him more than his own siblings and family,” she said when contacted yesterday.
“It will be a historical fight between a brother and sister.”
Ummi is known for her role as the prosecution’s witness in the Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s first sodomy trial in 1998.
She had been on a nationwide campaign against the Pakatan Rakyat for months, targeting to reveal the truth about Anwar and Azmin, the PKR deputy president.
Azmin is the Gombak MP as well as the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman after defeating Barisan’s candidates in the 2008 general election.
Ummi said that the people in Gombak were familiar with her and promised to bring more development and transformation to the constituency if she was elected as the MP.
When asked what would she do if she was not chosen as a Barisan candidate, Ummi said that she would continue with her campaign against Pakatan, especially against Anwar and Azmin.
