Apr 18, 2013-The blueprint drawn up by Hindraf for the uplifting of the Indian Malaysian community is set to be endorsed by BN.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will personally attend the event and sign the agreement, said national adviser to Hindraf N Ganesan (right) when contacted this morning.
“We confirm that the blueprint will be endorsed by BN. Prime Minister Najib is scheduled to attend the event at Vivekananda Tamil School Hall, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, at 6pm today,” Ganesan confirmed.
Hindraf chairperson P Waythamoorthy will be there, he said.
He was reluctant to give any other information about what has been agreed to between the prime minister and Hindraf. He said, “You are welcome to hear about it yourself.”
Hindraf’s blueprint aims to resolve six major problems faced by the Indian community, namely: Displaced estate workers, stateless persons, lack of access to education and job opportunities, police brutality including deaths in custody, and institutionalised racism.
Some of the proposed solutions include providing adequate compensation and skills training for displaced estate workers, establishing a minority affairs ministry, implementing the Independent Police Misconduct and Complaints Commission (IPCMC) and ratifying the UN’s International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
