PUCHONG: Gerakan central committee member Datuk Loo Yeng Peng has accused party president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon of favouritism in fielding A. Kohilan Pillay for the Puchong parliamentary seat.
“Kohilan’s candidacy goes against the Gerakan central working committee’s (CWC) decision and people’s wishes.
“The candidate’s list, endorsed by the CWC, was based on analysis, feedback from inside and outside the party, and in the best interest of the party. “Kohilan’s candidacy for Puchong came as a surprise to the CWC and there has been no explanation from Koh to me or the CWC on the change,” Loo told a press conference on Thursday.
Loo, who was shortlisted by the CWC as the candidate, served as a one-term Puchong MP after being elected in 2004. He lost the seat to DAP’s Gobind Singh Deo in 2008.
Loo has advised Koh not to campaign in Puchong this general election as it would complicate matters. Koh’s presence would not be accepted by the grassroots and people of Puchong, he added.
He also gave the assurance that his team would continue to run the election machinery and assist Barisan candidates, irrespective of their parties.
Barisan is also contesting the Seri Serdang and Kinrara state seats.
