Tekun NasionalKUALA LUMPUR, April 19 – About 40,000 Indian taxi drivers nationwide will benefit from a special loan scheme under the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional), said its chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rahim Hassan.

He said under the scheme, about RM12 million would be disbursed annually, whereby each taxi driver could apply for a loan up to RM12,500. The scheme was set up, following a successful pilot project in February which saw over 50 Indian taxi drivers obtaining loans totalling RM1.25 million, he said.

“This special loan scheme applies to all Indian taxi drivers who primarily come under the 12 major associations,” he told reporters after the presentation of cheques worth RM827,500 to 76 Indian taxi drivers in Batu Caves near here.
