Ahmad Zahid HamidiJOHOR BAHARU, April 19 – Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there were indications of foreign interference to thwart the formation of a Barisan Nasional (BN) government in Johor. Without mentioning names, Zahid said, the quarters concerned were determined to ensure the opposition in Johor would win in the 13th general election on May 5 (GE13).

“In this regard, it is essential that we ensure a win with a two-thirds majority to prove we reject foreign interference in Johor and Malaysian politics.

“As we have our own rules, we definitely do not want foreign interference in national politics,” he said in his speech during a meeting with the Kulai parlimentary constituency BN election machinery, here, today.

He said the opposition was now starting to focus on Johor because they wanted to turn it into their new base to expand their influence by fielding their top leaders in the upcoming elections.Ahmad Zahid said it was also the opposition’s intention to see a ‘hung

government’ if they could not topple the BN government at the federal level, so that a government could not be formed.
He said if the BN government failed to get two-thirds majority, it would be difficult for the government to make decisions in national administration.

At another event, Ahmad Zahid told reporters that the government would take action against any foreign individual interfering in the business of national politics. He said this when asked to comment on the statement by the Consulate- General of Singapore, here, yesterday, that the Singapore-registered car which entered Johor and displaying a logo supporting the campaign of a political party in Malaysia, was an action by individuals whose nationalities were unclear.
