New Maxis prepaid product gives unlimited access to Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp

PETALING JAYA: Telecommunication service provider Maxis Bhd has launched a new product, Hotlink Social Edition prepaid starter pack, the first in the country, that offers unlimited access to three social networking sites.

The three social networks are Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp.

The Hotlink Social Edition also caters to existing Hotlink customers, via Social Edition Hot Ticket, to enjoy similar services.

Joint chief operating officer Suren J. Amarasekera expects the new product to gain good traction in the market, based on their previous launches on new products.

“But, what’s even more important is that we are catering to a segment that will largely benefit from the new products,” he told the press after the launch yesterday that was also simultaneously celebrated in Penang, Johor Baru, Ipoh, Kuantan and Alor Star.

Suren also recognised that their competitors would respond to the launch of this new product.

“As a market leader is incumbent upon ourselves to drive the market and that’s what we will continue to do,” he said.

HOTLINKSuren said the social media had taken the world by storm and, in Malaysia, they had seen explosive growth of users.

“The country now boasts more than 13 million Facebook users and over two million of Twitter users. Research has also shown that Malaysians spend one-third of their time on social media.

“These are remarkable statistics and clearly show the continuing surge in social media networking and that users cut across multitude of segments,” he said.

Thus, Suren said, the Hotlink Social Edition was an ideal plan that would cater to users of different age groups.

“It will give them better access to stay connected and communicate with their friends, look up the latest news and developments, stay ahead in business or even enjoy the rich content on the popular social network platforms,” he added.

Going forward, Suren said with a customer base of over 14 million, Maxis would continue to innovate and the launch of this new product was yet another milestone in its journey to enrich customers’ lives.

The Hotlink Social Edition follows the successful launch of its new Hotlink Plan back in April last year.
