PETALING JAYA: 23-year-old political science student Mohamed Bukhairy Sofian has withdrawn from contesting in Pekan against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Bukhairy, who is part of Gerakan Mahasiswa PRU13 (GM13), pulled out from the race early Friday, saying that as Pakatan Rakyat leaders had endorsed the Mahasiswa manifesto.
Malaysian Student Solidarity chairman Safwan Anang said that Opposition leaders Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang promised to implement the manifesto if Pakatan manages to form the Federal Government.
“Bukhairy wanted to contest in Pekan because Pakatan didn’t respond to the manifesto at first,” said Safwan.
The student rights group now intend to throw their support behind PKR supreme council member Fariz Musa, who will be running in Pekan.
