“I want to go on diet”, says Najib while having breakfast

NAJIBKUALA LUMPUR, April 22- “I want to go on diet”, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said when having breakfast at a restaurant in Bandar Baru Selayang, near here, the first stop in his nationwide “go down to grassroots” tour to galvanise support for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Ma5 general election.

Restoran Rumpun Selera owner, Safnida Afiza Sanusi, said the prime minister said he wants to go on diet while she was serving him steamed nasi lemak with fried quail. Safnida Afiza said: “The prime minister told me to serve him only the quail drumstick because he wants to diet, that also he eat only a little bit.”

She said Najib also asked for iced tea without milk with less sugar. Safnida Afiza, who met the prime minister in person for the first time today, described him as friendly and easily approachable.

“The prime minister is friendly, with no protocol for the people to meet him… he’s very concerned and quick to response to what the people are talking.

“This is what I observed,” she told reporters after Najib finished having his breakfast.

Najib kicked off his country-wide tour today to meet the people at the grassroots. His first stop was in Selangor where he met the people at Bandar Baru Selayang under the Selayang parliamentary constituency. The seat, with 105,895 voters, is locked in a three-cornered fight.

The BN is fielding Deputy Minister of Finance Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, who is being challenged by PKR’s incumbent William Leong Jee Keen and Berjasa’s Mohd Hazizi Ab Rahman.
