KOTA BAHARU, April 23 – Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is still hoping that the DAP will accept PAS’ Islamic state concept following the latter’s readiness to use PAS’ logo in the 13th General Election (GE13).
“This means they are not Islamophobic,” he told reporters here today. He was commenting on a news report on Saturday which had quoted DAP chairman Karpal Singh as saying that the DAP would not waver in its stand on rejecting PAS plans to introduce hudud laws in the country despite the fact that it was willing to use the PAS symbol for the nomination of its candidates for GE13 last Saturday.
The DAP had considered the move after the Registrar of Societies (ROS), two days before Nomination Day, had notified the party that it did not recognise the election of its office bearers at the party’s congress last December. This followed after some of the party’s members lodged complaints with ROS that there were alleged irregularities in the party’s polls. Polling for GE13 is on May 5.
