KENINGAU, April 24- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has expressed regret over the explosion that occurred during a ceramah in Nibong Tebal last night, saying such an incident should not have happened.
The prime minister said all political parties participating in the 13th general election have been advised to uphold discipline and comply with the rules in the run-up to the election.
“Political parties vying for parliamentary and state seats should compete in a healthy manner in tandem with democratic practices,” he said when responding to an explosion that occurred behind the stage of the Nibong Tebal Barisan Nasional (BN) operations room when Penang Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan was speaking at a ceramah.
A security personnel on duty at the site sustained injuries on his right leg after being hit by shrapnel. Najib, who viewed the incident seriously, hoped all quarters, particularly political parties, to display political maturity to ensure such mishaps did not recur,
Earlier, Najib addressed a “leader-with-the-people” gathering at the Keningau Sports Complex. Meanwhile, two petrol bombs were hurled at the BN’s operations room in Sungai Leman, Sekinchan, early today.
