High Commission of India, in partnership with Malaysia India Heritage Group (MIHG) organised a Heritage Walk 2023 in conjunction with 65 years of India-Malaysia diplomatic relations and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
The Heritage Walk held on 13 May 2023 was flagged off from the Scott Road Kandasamy Temple by H.E.Mr.B.N.Reddy, High Commissioner of India to Malaysia. Speaking before the flag off, High Commissioner said the first of its kind, Heritage Walk underlines the significant presence and contribution of people of Indian origin in Malaysia and also reaffirms the importance of the India-Malaysia historical and cultural links.
The Heritage walk covered historic heart of Brickfields area of Kuala Lumpur, including landmark buildings, places of religious worship and arts & culture clustered in a compact area. Mr. Prabhakaran Nair, Founder-President, MIHG and Mr. Arul Jothi, President, Scott Road Kandasamy Temple also shared their thoughts on the occasion.
The 2-hour long walk which began at Scott Road Kandasamy Temple culminated at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, covering 15 places of historical and cultural significance including Malaysian Blind Association (MAB), Methodist College and Schools, Temple of Fine Arts, Buddhist Maha Vihara, Lutheran Church, Lady of Fathimah Church, Syrian Catholic Church, Torana Gate, Vivekananda Ashram and schools, Sam Kow Tong Temple, Gouthiyah Mosque.
The Heritage Walk was joined by about 90 enthusiastic participants including the members of Malaysia India Heritage Group, High Commission of India officials, representatives from India International Bank Malaysia, teachers and students from Global Indian International School, Members of local communities and media persons.
