Anwar IbrahimKUALA LUMPUR: The majority of the 28,593 foreign voters on the electoral roll are concentrated in hotly contested states Sabah and Selangor, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim claimed today.

Citing a report by the Malaysian Electoral Roll Analysis Project (MERAP), Anwar told reporters at PKR’s headquarters here that in Selangor, Gombak had the highest number of foreign voters, followed by Ampang.

“Sabah alone has 15,907 registered foreign voters, the majority of whom are Filipinos and Indonesians. Selangor has the next highest number with 4,324 foreign voters.

“The majority of the foreign voters will be in Sabah, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur… in the peninsula, Gombak has the highest number, followed by Ampang,” said Anwar.

The candidates for the Gombak seat are the incumbent MP, PKR vice-president Mohd Azmin Ali, Barisan Nasional’s Rahman Ismail and Independent Said Nazar Abu Baker.

Ampang, meanwhile, will see a straight fight between PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is the incumbent MP, and BN’s Rozaidah Talib.

But the parliamentary constituencies with the highest number of voters are in Sabah – Silam, Libaran, Kalabakan, Sipanggar, Putatan and Tawau, Anwar claimed.
