KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 – The MCA claimed today that the DAP was still trying to confuse the people even after PAS had stated clearly that it would implement ‘hudud’ (Islamic penal law) if the opposition pact came to power.
Its treasurer-general, Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had not made it clear whether he supported or opposed the PAS stand on hudud.
“Guan Eng has always been afraid of the subject of PAS’ hudud and tries to avoid it. In fact, he is actually paving the way for PAS by helping it campaign,” he said in a statement.
Tan said that despite the opposition pact’s manifesto not mentioning PAS’ hudud, “yet we can still see PAS enforcing its Islamic policies in Kedah and Kelantan.
“This is extremely irresponsible of them, so how much can we actually trust Pakatan’s manifesto?” he said.
Tan said DAP was only deceiving itself and the people, and was slowly trying to get the people to accept hudud in Malaysia. The hudud policies would affect non-Muslims and PAS would try to amend the Federal Constitution to allow implementation of its “oppressive policies” in all aspects of the people’s daily lives, he added.
In KLANG, MIC Youth chief T. Mohan said the fact that the Pakatan partners were squabbling about the implementation of hudud showed they hardly could reach consesus on anything.
“How are they to administer the country if they can’t even get their own house in order,” the BN candidate for the Seri Andalas state seat told Bernama.
In BUKIT MERTAJAM, former Perlis mufti Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said Malaysia was not ready for hudud laws.
The laws must be properly explained to gain people’s acceptance before they could be introduced in the country, he told reporters after holding a meeting with Dr Mazlan Ismail, the BN candidate for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat here today.
