KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 – Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon today threw a challenge to DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to make a formal stand on hudud, the Islamic law.
Dr Koh said both the DAP leaders had not made it clear whether they supported or opposed PAS’ stand on hudud or left the matter to the party’s national chairman, Karpal Singh.
“PAS said Karpal Singh’s view on this hudud matter does not matter. Therefore, the top leaders in DAP, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, must make their stand clear on hudud,” he told a news conference at Menara PGRM here.
Recently, PAS deputy spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din was quoted as saying that hudud would be implemented if the opposition pact came to power albeit a strong no-go policy from Karpal.
PAS is said to be going all out on hudud following DAP’s willingness to use PAS’ symbol when it had problems using its Rocket for the 13th general election recently. Dr said he foresaw that Pakatan Rakyat would not be able to come up with a common stand on its constitution because its components’ basic stands were so vastly different.
“Party constitution is much more important than manifesto because it is the stand of the party. The coalition’s constitution is the stand of the whole coalition.
“So we must force Pakatan Rakyat to come out with a common constitution on the coalition and a manifesto doesn’t count because (Selangor Menteri Besar) Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim himself had said that a manifesto is not a commitment,” he said.
