Mahathir MohamadKUALA LUMPUR, April 29 – Pakatan Rakyat is not really a coalition and could not work together as they have different ideas, ideologies, thinking, and views, said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said the opposition parties were just getting together in order to win the election.

“They know very well, if they fight each other, they will lose out to Barisan Nasional (BN). Therefore they have decided to put up one candidate per constituency. Of course this increases their chances of winning.

But what will happen after they win? It will be very different and (they) can’t have a single policy on almost anything,” he said during a viewpoints@7 programme hosted by
Hamdan Ahmir, tonight.

Dr Mahathir said the opposition’s differences could be seen in their disagreement on promoting freedom of religion and even until today during general election campaigns, they are squabbling against each other.

Malaysia despite having different races, regions, culture, languages and also a multitude of different types, is peaceful, much more peaceful than other multiracial countries or with single ethnic, he said.

“That is the main factor that forms a stable and peaceful country. If you look at other country, there are conflicts, which escalated to violence and killing,” he said.

BN on the other hand had survived and gone through this country for over 40 years because the party implemented the idea of sharing power and wealth with the people, he said.
