KUALA LUMPUR, May 3- Pakatan Rakyat, which has been playing the racial card in its quest for power, should not be given the opportunity to form the government because it will only take the country to the brink of destruction, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The prime minister said on the other hand, the Barisan Nasional (BN) emphasised on harmony and progress in the multi-racial society and would not allow any quarters to incite racial hatred.
“If you play racial issues just to be popular or to win seats, the seats will eventually be used to destroy the country,” he said in front of about 10,000 people at a dinner hosted by the Business Association of Wangsa Maju at Prima Setapak here tonight.
He said as a multiracial coalition, the BN adhered to a policy that preserved peace and harmony among the people.
Najib, who is also BN chairman, said as the business community strived to minimise risks, they should not take risks by choosing Pakatan Rakyat.
He also reminded the people, especially the Chinese community, to give the BN a strong mandate to enable it to continue to drive the transformation agenda, thus completing the mission to make Malaysia a developed nation by 2020.
The prime minister expressed his appreciation to the MCA for having loaned the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat to Umno in the 13th general election, hence proving the BN cohesion in its stride to bring changes to the constituency.
Najib thanked incumbent Member of Parliament for Wangsa Maju Wee Choo Keong (Independent) for bringing up issues affecting the people and the country.
Wee’s decision to leave Parti Keadilan Rakyat is a testimony that Pakatan Rakyat is not capable of serving the people and bringing progress to the country, said the prime minister. Datuk Dr Mohd Shafie Abdullah of BN faces Dr Tan Kee Kwong of PKR in the polls.
