ALOR SETAR, May 6 – Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah is confident that the new Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir can discharge his responsibility in administering the state well.
Ahmad Bashah, who is also the Kedah Umno Liaison chairman, said Mukhriz, who is also the State Umno and BN Liaison deputy chairman, was capable of being the head of the government in Kedah.
“The Prime Minister has made a decision to choose Mukhriz as the Menteri Besar. I hope all our friends will support and assist him. I’m confident he can carry out his duty, responsibility and the trust as Menteri Besar,” he told reporters after the appointment of the Kedah Menteri Besar at Istana Anak Bukit, here today.
At the ceremony, Mukhriz took the oath of office as the Kedah Menteri Besar. Kedah BN won 21 of the 36 state assembly seats to obtain a simple majority to wrest the state administration from the opposition pact.
Ahmad Bashah, who defended the Bakar Bata state seat which he had represented since 1995, said as an assemblyman, he would assist Mukhriz.
