BALING, April 2 – The people were today told to reject “runaway” candidates who love to jump from one place to another, as they are only interested to be elected representatives but not serving their constituents.
“If they are good ‘wakil rakyat’, they will remain in the constituency they represent and not ‘escape’ to a new area which they see can give them the chance to win, or because they fear they will lose if they stay put,” said Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah(Pic).
“The voters should see who these people really are as they would move to another constituency each time there’s a general election, because they have failed to be a serving people’s representative in their area.”
He said this after the launching of the Baling-level mobilisation programme for the 13th general election, here. Ahmad Bashah was asked to comment on PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) plans to choose PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to contest in two parliamentary seats in Kedah. These two leaders were said to never remain in the constituency they won but would contest in another in every general election.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Bashah said after five disappointing years, the people would be able to judge the PAS-led state government’s leadership, seen to be giving BN the edge to wrest back the state.
“Besides failing to fulfil the last general election manifesto, the current state government has also caused rampant forest destruction in Kedah, while the Menteri Besar failed to answer a lot of questions on his administration but
often blaming others for its failures.”
Ahmad Bashah, who is also Kedah Umno chief, was confident that in the upcoming 13th general election, the people would return their support to BN for it to redevelop the state. At the event, he also met with the Baling parliamentary consituency BN election machinery.
Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, who is also Kedah Umno information chief, and Baling Umno division head Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
