Peru is now Latin America’s 8th richest country

peruLIMA, May 8 – Peru has surpassed Colombia as the eighth richest country in Latin America, according to a Latinvex analysis of data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The analysis uses the latest figures of purchasing-power-parity (PPP)-adjusted to gross domestic product (GDP) per capita as a measure of income and wealth.

The report shows that Peru has a GDP (PPP) per capita of US$11,403; while Colombia dropped to ninth place with US$11,248.

The Latin American average of GDP (PPP) is US$12,818 and Chile tops the ranking with $19,475 per capita followed by Panama and Uruguay.

On the other hand, the country with the lowest GDP (PPP) of the region is Haiti with $1,358 per capita, followed by Nicaragua and Honduras.

According to the analysis, Peru will remain as Latin America’s eighth richest country for the next five years.
