n_ismailomar_latestKUALA LUMPUR, May 11- Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar will go on mandatory retirement on May 17 and not resigning due to pressure from plolitical parties as claimed by certain groups.

Assistant Head of the IGP Secretariat (Corporate Communications) ACP Ramli Mohamed Yusoof said the postings on the social media and blogs on the purported resignation of the IGP were slanderous and malicious.

In a statement today, he said Ismail’s retirement ceremony would be held one day before the date of his retirement.

Ramli also pointed out that the situation at the Federal Police Headquarters at Bukit Aman was calm without any chaos as claimed in the social websites.

Thus, members of the public are advised not to believe the lies spread nor to be involved in spreading the slanders by extending and sharing the unfounded allegations on the websites.
“It is reminded that individuals involved in spreading false and seditious information can be punished under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act,” he said.
Ismail held the top post in the Royal Malaysia Police since Sept 13, 2010 when he succeeded Tan Sri Musa Hassan, and his contract of service was renewed for another two years after getting the consent of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
