Palanivel confident govt continue to provide more aid for Indian community

Palanivel-MIc-e1364437544713Kuala lumpur, May 13 – MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel is confident that the government will continue with its programmes and initiatives to improve the socio-economy of the Indian community in the country.

He said the government which had introduced several initiatives and business loan assistance for the community, had change the lives of thousands of Indians and brought them into the mainstream development of the country.

“We hope that PM (Datuk Seri) Najib (Tun Razak) will continue to reform and bring equal opportunities such as job opportunities and admission to local universities and teachers training colleges, not only for the Indian community but for all communities,” he told Bernama today.

Palanivel noted that there should be a greater economic and social development for every citizen to fully realise that Malaysia is fully committed to national development.

Since 2009, among others, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had allocated RM540 million to fund the development of Tamil schools, RM150 million

microcredit scheme, RM50 million Tekun loans and a total of 1,500 matriculation seats for Indian Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students.

On the party’s performance in the 13th General Election (GE13), Palanivel who won in Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat, said the Indian community

support for Barisan Nasional (BN) has risen to about 70 percent  following initiatives introduced by the government for the community.

“The Indian community’s support for BN is better now compared to the last general election. I also would like to thank all voters who had made it successful for BN to secure victory,” he said.

Palanivel also stressed that it was very important for all Malaysians to continue to support the democrary in the country.

The GE13 saw MIC winning four of the nine parliamentary seats and five of the 18 state seats contested.

Besides Palanivel, three others who recorded victories are deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam (Segamat), vice-president Datuk M.Saravanan (Tapah) and Putera co-coordinator P. Kamalanathan (Hulu Selangor).

As for state seats, only five MIC candidates managed to win, namely three in Johor and one each in Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.

In the 2008 General Election, MIC suffered a dismal outing after it only won three of the nine parliamentary seats and seven of the 19 state seats contested.
