KUALA TERENGGANU, May 16- Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (photo), 58, who played a significant role in the development of education and Islam in Terengganu has been appointed as Education and Higher Learning Minister II.
The Besut MP who also served as the Entrepreneurial Development deputy minister for a term in 1995 was instrumental in introducing the Sekolah IMTIAZ, Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Ulul Albab, Pintar Quran and various education initiatives in Terengganu, particularly in Besut and Setiu.
The Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman was also the Terengganu menteri besar from 2004 until 2008.
He holds a Master of Business degree from the University of New Haven, United States of America (1988) and a Social Science degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia (1980).
Born in Kampung Tok Has Jertih, he played a major role in steering the ‘blue wave’ to trounce the PAS Terengganu state government in the 2004 general election, which saw Barisan Nasional securing 28 of the 32 state seats it contested.
