Her name was proposed by Datuk Fatimah Abdullah (BN-Dalat) and seconded by Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan (BN-Bukit Sari).
Dayang Madinah defeated Andrew Lo Kian Nyan, a candidate proposed by the opposition, by a majority of 36 votes.
She garnered 53 votes while Lo, who was proposed by Baru Bian (PKR-Ba’ Kelalan) and seconded by Wong Ho Leng (DAP-Bukit Assek), secured 17 votes.
Dayang Madinah, who is the vice-chief of the women’s wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), was first elected senator on July 19, 2010.
