LIMA, May 22 – Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper (photo) arrives Tuesday night in Peru to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Harper is accompanied by Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), Diane Ablonczy.
The delegation also includes members of Canada’s Parliament and a group of entrepreneurs.
The prime minister is scheduled to meet with President Ollanta Humala Tasso Wednesday.
“The meeting will focus on deepening bilateral cooperation in economy, development, education and defence,” said an official statement of prime minister’s office.
He will also hold talks with private sector leaders and Canadian businessmen who have investments in Peru.
Harper’s visit is the first by a Canadian leader to Peru, the third major trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean, after signing a free trade pact in 2008.
