Putra Jaya, May 25 – Outgoing Special officer to Prime Minister Datuk Ravin Ponniah has clarified recent news reports about his resignation. In a press statement Ravin Ponniah said he is resigning as a Special Officer to the Prime Minister on 28 May 2013 in order to continue his PhD studies in the field of urban low-‐income housing at Trinity College, Cambridge University in United Kingdom.
The statement also stated as follows:-
“In October 2004, Datuk Ravin Ponniah began serving Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as Special Officer to the Prime Minister in the Policy Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prior to this, he studied architecture at University College London where he earned a first class degree before working in London. Then, on a British Government Chevening Scholarship, he completed his Masters at the University of Cambridge.”
“After working for Tun Abdullah, he worked in Senior Management of Time Berhad, a listed GLC, until January 2010, when he began serving Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak as advisor and Special Officer to the Prime Minister in charge of Indian Community Affairs”
Ravin also said: “it has been an honour for me to serve two Prime Ministers over an 8 year period. I am deeply grateful to them for the opportunity given to me to serve my community and my country over this time. I believe I have been able to serve to the best of my ability because of the advice and support I have received. For this, I would like to sincerely thank my team and all the many leaders, volunteers and good people who have guided me and worked with me and therefore, helped me serve the Prime Minister and our community.”
